Each hemisphere has four lobes. Each lobe is named after the bone in the skull that protects it:

How the Human Brain Works?

How the Human Brain Works? : The brain is the largest, most complex part of the nervous system. Your brain help you receive messages-think, remember, and reason and coordinates your muscular movement. Your brain is involved in your emotions and everything you sense. It weighs about 3 pounds (1.4 kg) and contain almost 100 billion neurons. At birth, the brain weighs about 1 pound (0.5 kg). In humans, it reaches full size by age 6.

The brain is supplied with the food and oxygen it needs from a vast network of blood vessels. Although the brain makes up only about 2 percent of your total body weight, it uses 20 percent of the oxygen you inhale. What is a Nerve Impulse?

What is a Nerve Impulse? : The nerve impulse is an electrical change that races along neurons from the point of stimulation to the brain or spinal cord. The more myelin a neurons has, the faster the impulse travels. Suppose you are walking home with a friend. At an intersection the “Don’t Walk” sign lights up. You stop, wait for “Walk” sign, and proceed. But during this time. You never stop talking with your friend. It sound simple enough, but the event of stopping and waiting involves millions of nerve cells.

Sensory receptors in your eyes are stimulated by the signal light and translate the stimulation into a nerve impulse. Now each sensory neurons begins a series of electrical and chemical changes to transmit the impulse. The impulse moves from the receptor ends of dendrites to the cell body and along the axon to the dendrites of another sensory, the junction between the axon end of one neuron and the dendrite of another neuron.

The impulse is transmitted in this way your spinal cord, where interneurons carry the impulse to your brain. Your brain translates the message and sends an impulse back through motor neurons to muscles in your legs. You stop at the corner. The process repeats itself when the sensory receptors in your eyes receive the stimulus of the “Walk” light. This time you start walking across the street.

What is a Neurons?

What is a Neurons? : Neurons are the structural parts of both the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). Neurons have three basic parts: a cell body, dendrites, and an axon.

The Cell Body :The cell body has a nucleus and is the center for receiving and sending nerve impulses. It also is the center for making proteins and using energy for the maintenance and growth of the neurons. The shape of the cell body varies according to the type of neuron. Some sensory neurons are round, those on the surface of the brain are diamond-shaped, and motor neurons are star-shaped.

Dendrites : Dendrites are threadlike extensions of the cell body. They are usually short and have many branches. Dendrites receive and carry impulses toward the cell body. Some Continue reading
